All RPCA meetings are open to the public, unless a motion is passed to deal with all or part of the agenda “in camera.” Voting at Board Meetings is reserved to directors; and voting at Annual General Meetings is reserved to members in good standing.       Discussion of new plans to calm traffic and beautify West Walkley Road.
    3. Toy Bins for Local Parks
      Discussion of new initiative to install toy bins in local parks.
    4. Active Transportation Priorities
      City Councilors have been asked to identify Active Transportation Priorities in each ward. This discussion will help identify priorities to be submitted to Councillor Brockington in advance of the May 26 deadline.
    5. Gateway Zone Signage for General Vanier Neighbourhood
      Discussion of proposal to install specialized gateway zone signs reducing traffic speed to 40 km/hr for all streets in the General Vanier neighbourhood. The initiative would take effect later this spring at the entrances to the General Vanier neighbourhood, at Walkley Road and Wexford Way and at Walkley Road and Avoncourt Way.
    6. Traffic Calming on Provost Dr.
      Discussion of proposal to install seasonal traffic calming flex sticks on Provost Dr.
    7. Preparation for Riverside Mall Public Consultation
      Discussion of plans for Brigil Construction’s upcoming public consultation on the Riverside Mall site plan: Monday, May 31 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    8. Membership in the Federation of Citizens Associations
      Discussion of proposal to renew membership in the Federation of Citizens Associations, at a cost of $35, and the appointment of two RPCA representatives to the FCA.

In January, the RPCA hosted an important community meeting with city planners about the draft New Official Plan for Ottawa … and its implications on Riverside Park.

This month, we will be reporting on our plans to submit a response to the Official Plan, based on the anticipated impact on Riverside Park and the feedback received from area residents. Join us for this follow up community discussion. This meeting is open to the public.

Last month, the RPCA hosted an important community meeting with city planners about the draft New Official Plan for Ottawa … and its implications on Riverside Park.

This month, we are hosting a follow-up community conversation about the future of our neighbourhood. Join us to give your input on what should be included in our community submission to the Official Plan consultation.

Also at this meeting, we will be electing two directors, one to represent Riverside Park West and the other to represent Revelstoke. One of the new directors will fill the role of Treasurer. Click here for details on the nomination process.

    7.1. Director & Officer Elections

    Following the resignation of two directors (representing Riverside Park West and Revelstoke), the RPCA issued a call for nominations, with a deadline of 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. At this meeting, the Nominations Committee will present a slate of candidates, and a new Treasurer will be appointed. All appointments will serve a term commencing immediately, through to the October 6 Annual Meeting of the Members.
    7.2. Community Discussion: Responding to Ottawa’s Draft New Official Plan
    At the February 3, 2021 meeting of the Board, City of Ottawa planners presented a draft New Official Plan and discussed its implications on Riverside Park. At this meeting, we will discuss the priorities for a community submission to the Official Plan consultation. All residents are encouraged to join the discussion and share their perspective.
    7.3. Presentation: 2021-2023 Action Plan
    The RPCA Board held two virtual retreats on January 9 and 24 to develop a two-year action plan. At this meeting, the draft 2021-2023 Action Plan will be presented for discussion and adoption.
    7.4. Presentation: Information Technology & Information Management Proposal
    The RPCA Information Technology Manager, Sarah Brickell, will present a draft Information Technology & Information Management Proposal for discussion and adoption.

As resolved at the December 2020 meeting the RPCA sent a letter to the National Capital Commission and the City of Ottawa in support of greater safety initiatives at Conroy Pit.

At the December 2020 meeting, it was moved by Kate and seconded by Joel to allocate $750 for the purchase of toy bins for local parks, pending feedback from Ottawa Public Health.

    7.3. Halloween Wrap-Up
    Whereas the RPCA’s Halloween Activities for 2020 were an unqualified success, despite the precarious nature of the pandemic; and
    Whereas community fundraising efforts greatly exceeded expectations, generating a surplus that is expected to be over $1,000 when the account is settled; therefore
    Be it resolved that the RPCA recognize the generous support of the community and the tireless efforts of all the volunteers who organized and promoted the events, bought and delivered candy and toys, assembled and distributed treat bags, wrote and read spooky stories, collected and donated pumpkins, paid or reimbursed bills, researched city bylaws and public health restrictions, shared their costumes online, and otherwise helped to retain the magic of Halloween for local children; and
    Be it further resolved that 50% of the fundraising surplus be donated to the Ottawa Food Bank in the name of the RPCA and Riverside Park residents, and the remaining 50% be used to subsidize future community events.
